Full circle
People all over the world eat meat. The agricultural sector meets that consumer need and works according to national and international legislation and regulation in a sustainable manner. By doing so, animal by-products are created that are converted to high-value products in different ways. One of those applications is the production of biofuels.
It is there that Ecoson sees opportunities. Opportunities to let the maximization of the value of specific slaughter by-products go hand-in-hand with a sustainable entrepreneurship. And opportunities to meet the increasing demand for energy in a green way. Ecoson thus completes the cycle and clearly demonstrates the sustainable way of  working the VION Food Group strives to attain.

The better alternative
Ecoson’s raw materials have not been produced specifically for the production of energy. Their use for this purpose does not impact the food chain and because of the regional availability of the raw materials, there is no need for polluting transport of raw materials over long distances. As a consequence of these and other factors, the Ecoson raw materials - as well as the end products - are classified as second generation biofuels. By way of comparison: The production, processing and combustion of these fuels is demonstrably less damaging to the environment than those of mineral fuels. Compared with fossil fuels and biofuels, the reduction of the environmental impact is considerable.
