Improvement by nature

Processes

The complete approach
The production location consists of two plants in one. The fermentation facility ensures that Ecoson can operate independently from the gas and power mains, thanks to production of green energy. On the right hand side, animal fats are converted to biofuels.

Fermentation facility
The anaerobic fermentation facility converts, drain fats, sludge, kitchen waste and manure effluent to biogas. The natural origin of the raw materials makes biogas a sustainable energy source. The Ecoson CHP units (linked configurations of a gas engine, generator and heat recovery unit) provide green energy by burning the biogas with the highest possible energy yield.

Fat processing
The fat processing installation has been designed specifically to upgrade animal fat to stable biofuels. The fat is de-acidified with cleaning and refining processes, to make  its suitable for use in CHPs. The biodiesel is subjected to another processing step, the so-called ‘transesterification’. This makes it possible to use the fat in diesel engines, either in pure or blended.
